The Magic Yellow Bus in the Inner West is an institution for tribes looking for a fun experience. Read on to find out what it’s all about and where to find it.
We are very lucky in the Inner west to have loads of fantastic parks, walking distance from most houses. And frequenting many of those parks since the 70’s… is the Magic Yellow Bus an Inner West golden oldie.
It’s more truck than bus and it doesn’t exactly sprinkle fairy dust out the exhaust but this playgroup on wheels sure does entertain my toddler. And if it can do that for more than 5 consecutive minutes, in my opinion it’s the ‘David Copperfield’ of buses!
Originally it was a double decker yellow bus and over time the bus became a truck and a van type vehicle but one thing hasn’t changed it’s still full of fun and creative toys for babies to school aged kids.
We usually visit the Petersham Park truck on Mondays. Sitting pretty under the huge leafy trees, it’s a great spot, with all the facilities – BBQ’s, toilets, and in the summer months even a pool! The park is dog friendly, has recently had a make over and the playground is now covered with shade cloth.
The Magic Yellow Bus sets up stations based on age and activity so there are soft toys for newborns, a reading nook, play dough, dress ups and painting fun. Plenty of bat and ball toddler sports, a balance beam, mini lawn mowers- definitely a hot ticket item and even arm painting, which is a great way to teach your kids the fun game of lining up! Funnily enough my two year olds favourite thing to do, is to wait until the very end and help pack up! If only that hobby would last forever!
At Petersham Park you can indulge in coffee and croissants from the award winning Pig and Pastry Café as your kids make friends and most importantly entertain themselves!!! Well for as long as mini-humanly possibly. And parents and carers can happily chat amongst themselves, well for as long as their mini-humans let them!
It’s the perfect place to go when you just want to do something easy, let your child run or crawl around, get some fresh air and of course it’s all free!
