If you’re looking for something to do these school holidays that is outdoors, not too expensive and fun for the whole family, make sure you visit Stirling Miniature Railway.
Stirling Miniature Railway is a hobby club open to the public in Balcatta, WA and run by Northern Districts Model Engineering Society (Perth) Inc (NDMES). This beautiful space is also perfect to take a picnic lunch or barbeque.
With plenty of ample parking right at the front it was only a short walk to the ticket station. For $10 per person or $40 a family, under 3’s are free, this includes unlimited rides on any of the trains of your choice. Just remember closed shoes must be worn for safety.
This railway evokes all your senses! As soon as you step out onto the platform expect a whiff of oil, steam and smoke. You can hear the gentle humming of engines going round the station and the best part are the whistles used to warn passengers that the train is approaching. My boy was in heaven!
There were two separate tracks with four trains running so this place runs like a well oiled machine. Each train ride goes around 3 to 4 times so kids get plenty of opportunity to see the bridges, tunnels inland views of the surrounding gardens.
Stirling Miniature Railway is open to the public on the last Sunday of the month between 10am and 2pm outside of the school holidays. It is definitely worth a look and lovely to support a non profit organisation, bringing joy though model engineering to the tribes in Perth!
