Mother’s Day is only a few days away, but if you haven’t figured out what to do with the tribe on Mum’s special day, fear not! We have a couple of fun ideas up our sleeve for you.
New South Wales
Featherdale Wildlife Park
These legends have decided to let Mum enter the park for free on her special day. So instead of paying $31 for Mum, you can put that money towards a nice gift or a bunch of flowers and take her to see Australian wildlife up close! The whole tribe will love feeding the wallabies, having a photo with a koala and checking out the huge crocodiles! Pack a picnic and make a day of it.
Darling Harbour attractions
Take Mum for a nice lunch in Darling Harbour and then pop into any of these attractions and present this voucher to get her free admission! You can visit WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo, SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium or Madame Tusasuds. Don’t forget to take the voucher with you!
Victoria
Werribee Open Range Zoo
So it’s no secret that the kids get into the zoo for free on the weekends, but what makes Werribee the perfect choice for Mother’s Day is they have a special high tea for Mum coming up! You will have to get in fast to book your spot as the first sitting of the day is already sold out! But there are still tickets available for the 2:30pm high tea. Your tickets include the cost of entry to the zoo for the adults as well as bubbles, beer and soft drink on arrival, followed by a high tea styled brunch. Tickets are $70 per adult and $45 per child (4-15 years).
Omaru Alpaca’s Open Day
Escape the city and get a bit of country air when you take the tribe to Omaru Alpaca’s annual Mother’s Day Open Day. Entry is free for the kids and only $5 per adult. You can feed the baby alpacas and get up close to them for a pat, and then be sure to take Mum to visit the Farm Store with special alpaca products. There’s also face painting for the kids and pony rides.
South Australia
Gondola Ride
Why not book a sunset Gondola ride along the River Torrens while the adults sip on sparkling wine and the tribe takes in the scenery of beautiful Adelaide. A 40 minute ride is only $110 for four people so it’s a lovely activity that won’t break the bank but will be a memorable experience for Mum on her special day!
Adelaide Botanic Garden
Take Mum for a picnic lunch in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. Stroll around the beautiful grounds and enjoy the several feature gardens, including the International Rose Garden with over 5000 different roses on show! Spread out the picnic blanket and bring a bottle of bubbles and enjoy the great outdoors with the tribe. Entry to the Adelaide Botanic Garden is free.
Australian Capital Territory
Rainforest Gully Walk
Take Mum for a walk along the Rainforest Gully Walk in the Australian National Botanic Gardens. Walk along the lit up boardwalks and take in the stunning views from the gully. This walk takes about 10 minutes and is wheelchair accessible so it’s a great activity for people of all ages and abilities. Entry to the garden is free.
Queensland
Brisbane Botanic Gardens
If you’re in Mt Coot-tha, head to the Brisbane Botanic Gardens with a picnic packed and a big picnic rug to enjoy an afternoon of music. Windsor Brass, Rivercity Steel Band and Brisbane Brass have come up with a play list of easy tunes especially for mothers. It’s free to enter the Brisbane Botanic Gardens and while you’re there, check out the Hide ‘n’ Seek children’s trail to keep the tribe entertained!
Markets and music
Take Mum to the Mother’s Day by the Bay at Little Bayside Park to check out the markets. There will be lots of stalls, food stalls and of course it’s all by the seaside. Once she’s done shopping, set up a picnic in the park and listen to the Sunnybank Brass band and Bayside Brass as they play some cool tunes. This is a free event.
