Jam and Cream is the perfect mixture of quaint meets quirky. You’ll find this rare gem in Heidelberg, Victoria and even though it’s a little off the beaten track as far as cafe’s go – it’s well worth the effort to visit with the tribe. The first thing you’ll notice upon arrival is the washing line in the window with what looks like Grandma’s vintage knickers hanging out to dry. This sets the tone for the atmosphere of Jam and Cream when you step inside. The walls are covered with vintage finds such as hand-held kitchen apparatus’ such as egg beaters, and you’ll even find an old school game of scrabble hanging on the wall with the entire game strategically glued into place.
The jewel in the crown that is Jam and Cream is the pink retro caravan parked in the backyard. Tribes can book a table in the camper van to dine in, which seats up to 12 guests.
On the menu there is the tempting High Tea, or if you’re just popping by for a scone and a cuppa, it will be tough to decide between the sweet scones (named after ladies) or the savoury (named after gents). There are 19 different scones on the menu; some of the delicious options include Miss Polly – a cranberry and white chocolate scone, Florence – caramel and espresso and Bertha – a Mars Bar scone. The savoury scones are just as tempting with Gilbert – an onion, cheddar cheese and chutney scone, Basil – a tomato, cheese and basil scone and Montgomery – a sweet chilli, cheese and lime scone.
You will also delight in the opportunity to buy local crafts and wares that are sold at Jam and Cream on consignment. Everything from knick knacks to home made jams and honey. A visit to Jam and Cream is a must when you’re in the area.
