We all know that Vivid Sydney is in full swing, but where are the really cool spots to take the tribe? You might only get one chance to take the kids to see the lights and you don’t want to be disappointed. Here’s what other tribes have recommended from their Vivid experiences.
Taronga Zoo
Vanessa took her tribe to see the Lights for the Wild installation at the Zoo and said they were a highlight for the whole family. Vanessa’s tribe includes 1 year old Oscar so it was important that they picked a place where they could get around with the pram.
“It was so cool. There were lots of kids and you just follow the foot path so it’s nice and easy for families to navigate.”
As well as the lights, there are animals that are still awake in their exhibits making a night time visit to the zoo really stand out. Not to mention there are spectacular views of Sydney Harbour to be had from Taronga Zoo, including the Opera House and Harbour Bridge which are both lit up as part of Vivid.
The Rocks
The Never Ends installation can be found in The Rocks along with this interactive illuminated spring horse. Christine took her tribe to this Vivid installation and said it was worth checking out.
“It was lots of fun. We did lots of walking but we saw heaps of different things. There are also food trucks around so it was easy to get some dinner and dessert while we were out. There was about a 15 minute wait to ride the horse, and there was also another interactive installation with piano keys on the ground, which when you step on them, it produces patterns on a wall and accompanying sounds.”
Darling Harbour
Magicians of the Mist is a light, music and water extravaganza that runs every half an hour from 6pm – 11pm in Cockle Bay. If you are having dinner in the area you’re in for a real treat! Engineers, fountaineers, pyrotechnicians, artists and composers have worked together to create a stunning display that the tribe will love!
If you happen to be in the area on a Friday night or Saturday night, you can add the regular weekend fireworks display at 7pm and 8:30pm to the excitement.
Royal Botanic Garden Sydney
The Dipping Birds do exactly what you think they will do… dip their heads into the water! Just like the popular dipping birds toys, these larger scaled installations will bring the tribe the same kind of delight that the toy version brought to us as kids.
There are other cool installations happening throughout the gardens so you can make a night of it by checking out the Electric Forest with its beautifully lit up trees and The Sunflowers, giant lit up sunflowers that take a bow to greet you as you walk past.
Lighting of the Sails
What’s a trip to see Vivid without checking out our iconic Sydney Opera House and the Lighting of the Sails? This year’s installation is all about sea creatures, birds and plant life accompanied by the sounds of Brazilian composer, Amon Tobin.
The installation is titled Audio Creatures and it is guaranteed to be worth the viewing with promise of a fantastic backdrop to take some photos of the tribe.
